ISO Standards: Choices and Checks
There are many different choices to be made at the beginning of the ISO 9001 process. Firstly, you should choose a certification body that is UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) accredited. This is the only government-recognised qualification. You should also consider your budget, and the reviews and results that potential bodies can offer you. Choose to work with a company that can demonstrate their successes, has plenty of experience, and above all that you feel comfortable and supported with.
QMS and Audits for ISO 9001
The process of becoming ISO certified requires an initial audit, or Stage 1. This takes stock of your current status, and the work you will need to complete in order to meet Quality requirements. You must then develop or implement a Quality Management System (or QMS) which will allow you to monitor every aspect of your business and the progress you are making. You then submit the required documents, and your auditor will complete your Stage 2 audit. If you pass, you will be granted your ISO 9001 certification.
